From the moment i heard this song I fell in love with it. I started listening to green day when we first got 'foxtel' paid tv. We had 'MTV' , 'Music Max', 'Channel V' and i heard this song. This was around the same time 'Green Day ' 'American 'Idiot was released. I honestly thought that this song was brand new. I knew my brother had a collection of 'Green Day' albums and kept flicking through the cds just like one opens the fridge for the millionth time expecting a delicious snack to just randomly appear. I kept seeing the name 'Good Riddance' and multiple others but i didn't want that song I wanted 'Time of your life'. Due to me only being a primary school student i couldn't watch music channels all day and waiting for this song to come on was almost impossible at the end of the day with homework and other family members being present and wanting to watch other things on tv and having to go to bed early. 'Green Day' were doing a tour with 'Simple Plan' and i was now in my very early high school years. One day my dad surprised the family with a two week vacation to 'Queensland' and they had paid tv in the hotel room. On this 2 week xmas vacation they had a music channel i was allowed to watch and this song came on with this music clip what was even better is that not long after the vacation we were going to see 'Green Day' and 'Simple Plan' live. I couldn't help but to read the bottom of the screen where it has in the little box who the artist is and what song they are playing and you will never believe it read 'Good Riddance' not 'Time of your life'. I started jumping up and down i was more excited about this song than any of the actual thrill rides at 'Dreamworld' there was no sideshow ride more thrilling than how i felt that day and i even wrote the name down out of fear that i would forget. I couldn't wait to get home. As soon as I got home i went to my brothers room and put on 'Good Riddance' the feelings I had of shock, excitement, love, the feeling that anything really is possible. My brother even ended up letting me have the CD. When i was on holidays and on the weekend every Friday and Saturday i would play this song all night and when i say all night i refused to sleep just so i could listen to it again and again even my dad couldn't believe i was still listening to this song at 6 am and even my dad wanted to learn the guitar chords and lyrics later on in life. I remember the concert and this was the very last song they played my dad just looked at me and all i could so was smile. This song hasn't changed but i have. I didn't have the time of my life in school. My teenage years were a wreck.i honestly thought that high school was never going to end, such a long long journey. But i did come out as a 3x award winning high school graduate, I followed my dreams of who it is I wanted to be, it was worth all the while, staying up until 3 am sometimes later just to finish my homework studies and exams and even though life including me is unpredictable i know now that it is right, I am now having the time of my life.
This was my older sisters class song and my class song two years later as well. Just goes to show great songs never go bad.
