I don't know the movie or context, but I'll tell you right now, his bags would not have been on that plane. If a passenger gets off or is removed from a flight, their bags are found and removed as well. It's a safety issue, the concern is that someone will put a bomb in their checked bag, leave the plane or intentionally get thrown off, and then they're safe.
